    The Position:

     

    Librarians are responsible for providing professional library services in all areas of public and technical services.  The Youth Services Librarian performs a range of professional library services for library patrons from birth through grade 12 and their caregivers.  Duties may include Collection Development, Programming, Reader’s Advice, Reference, Outreach, Technology and instruction to library patrons and staff.  Librarians’ promote a customer centered philosophy and work as a positive team member to meet the needs of the library and to efficiently serve the library constituents of the City of Lewiston.  Provide insight on library trends and user needs to ensure library services feature, function, and meet library patron and staff requirements.

    What We Are Looking For:

     

    • Master’s Degree in Library Science from an ALA-accredited program preferred.
    • One year of library experience or equivalent.
    • Ability to relate to children, teens, and families.
    • Working knowledge of children’s literature and child development highly desirable.
    • Valid driver’s license.

The Lewiston City Library provides access to culture, technology and free lifelong education in the Lewis-Clark Valley.     The Librarian for Children and Youth will help us build excellence thru creating positive customer experiences and coordinate library services for patrons from birth to grade 12 and their caregivers.

    The City
    The City operates under the Council/Manager form of government. Major Departments include Administrative Support Services, Public Works, Parks & Recreation, Police, Fire, Community Development and the Library.

    The Position
    Duties may include Collection Development, Programming, Reader’s Advice, Reference, Outreach, Technology and Instruction to library patrons and staff. The Lewiston City Library’s current areas of focus are Early- and Hands-On Learning.

    The work schedule for this position is 40 hours per week and will include some evening and weekend shifts. This position includes PERSI retirement benefits, medical including dental, vacation and sick leave.

    Qualifications
    A Masters in Library Science form an ALA-accredited program required. One year of library experience, or any combination of experience and training which providers the equivalent scope of knowledge, skills and abilities necessary to perform the work. Working knowledge of children's literature and child development is highly desirable. Valid driver’s license required.
